4. Open Doors And Windows
Open the doors and windows in your home to allow the breeze to blow through your home. By opening the bottom of the window on the prevailing wind side of the home and opening the top of the window on the opposite side of the home, you’ll draw the cooler air in at the bottom and let the hotter air out at the top
5. Use Ceiling Fans
If there isn’t enough air flow through the home by opening the windows, try turning on ceiling fans. These fans will either blow the air down or up, depending how you set them. Ceiling fans cost much less than air conditioners do and do a great job of blowing hot air from up on the ceiling area down and out the open windows, while drawing in cooler air as it circulates the air in the room.
6. Wear Loose-fitting, Light Colored Clothing
Another great method for keeping cool is to wear loose fitting clothing, especially if they are made of cotton, to draw moisture away from your body. Dress for the heat by wearing shorts, swimwear, and by all means, whites instead of dark-colored clothing. The dark clothing attracts the heat and will leave you hot and steamy. Wear sandles and the ever-popular Crocks to help keep your feet cool.
7. Relax Under The Shade Tree Or Go Camping
Pull up a lawn chair or hammock under your favorite shade tee and relax! The temperature under the shade tree can be up to 20 degrees cooler than standing in the direct sunlight.
Get out and enjoy the great outdoors by going camping. Most campgrounds have water activities, bike trails, and other activities to keep your mind off of the heat. Your camper is likely equipped with an awning to sit under.
8. Food And Drinks
Eat light meals and avoid hot foods on these hot days. By eating chilled foods, salads, fruits, and vegetables, you’ll not only keep your body temperature down, but also the temperature of the house by not cooking on the stove or in the oven.
Drink plenty of fluid! As you get hot, your body perspires in an effort to cool itself. Replacing the loss of fluid is vital. By hydrating yourself long before you go out in the heat, you’ll see that maintaining fluid levels is easier and more comfortable than trying to catch up on lost fluids. Drink cool drinks, not hot coffee or tea.
9. Throw In A Wet Towel
A quick and effect way to cool yourself down is by wetting a towel with cold water and wrapping it around your neck. It cools the passing blood in your veins and cools the body’s temperature. Speaking of wet towels, jump in a cool shower to cool down when you’ve just had enough. This is a great practice just before you go to bed also. It removes the sweat from your body and opens the skin’s pores to allow the body to cool.
10. Take A Swim
Of course the number one idea is to take a swim! Ahh! There’s nothing that cools you off better in the summer than a dip in the cool swimming pool.For added cooling, place an umbrella near one side of the pool’s edge so you can remain in the shade while relaxing in the pool. -About
