AC Service | Tips for Replacement
AC Service | This summer it might just be the right time for you to go for it and upgrade or replacement your old air conditioner. If your air conditioner is more than ten (10) years old, and not running as efficiently as you think it should, schedule an AC repair tune up before it get’s too hot. If the system is simply not turning on you need to have an AC service repair technician come out to inspect and diagnose the problem. From there, they will give you recommendations on repair.
Be aware of the electric consumption of your air conditioner. should your utility bills be too high after ten (10) years of persistent usage it may simply need a tune up. Depending on the quality of the Air Conditioner brand you have currently installed, it may be time to consider upgrading to a newer, more energy efficient model.
There are several contractor guidelines when hiring any home improvement specialist. You should consider the same type of guidelines while hiring an AC contractor.
You want to replace your old air conditioner. But, is that all you need? Don’t just get settled with an easy replacement of your air conditioner. You need to consider the entire system efficiency and not just to take care of your AC unit, replace the furnace and air handler as-well. The outside AC unit with its condenser and compressor should also be taken into account with the same kind of replacement after every 10 – 15 years.
- Duct Work Inspection is Key – By repairing, resealing and reworking air ducts connected to your HVAC system, you can definitely boost up the efficiency. Before recommending a particular air conditioner, the AC contractor should consider duct efficiency, size, shape and orientation of your home. The contractor must also take into account the amount of insulation, windows and number of people in the house. If you are recieving a quote on a new air conditioner and the contractor doesn’t inspect the duct work thoroughly, you may want to get a second opinion.
- Make sure your new air conditioner is sized properly – The recent improvements in air conditioner efficiency give homeowners a choice for people to buy fewer tons of cooling power for their usage. In some cases the A/C unit your home was built with is not properly sized compared to todays standard. However, the problem is often not going to be solved by increasing your air conditioner size.
- Brand Matters – If you are looking for a lower priced air conditioner, you must be careful not to sacrafice quality of th system. A low bid is from someone who hasn’t probably analyzed your ducts and also who might not include a decent guarantee above the manufacturers stander ones may not benefit you in the long run. One must consider bid based on complete analysis, what we call an apples to apples comparison.
- Understand SEER ratings – Always ask for Energy Department’s SEER ratings. Air conditioners including the Energy Star label have Energy Efficiency Ratio’s ranging from 13 seer – 21 seer. The higher the SEER, the more efficient the air conditioners and thus less costly to operate. In general, air conditioners with ratings somewhere in the middle will probably work fine and also will pay you back in energy savings.
